Northwest Missouri State University was already atop the national polls entering the conference tournament. Now the Bearcats sit atop the NCAA Central Region Rankings as well.
The NCAA released the ranking of the top eight teams in the region Wednesday afternoon. The previous two weeks only listed teams under consideration.
Northwest (21-1) earned the top spot followed by Northern State at number two. Washburn, the only team to beat Northwest in the regular season, came in at number three. Wayne State (NE), Minnesota State Moorhead and Missouri Western rounded out spots four, five and six, respectively. Missouri Southern was seventh and Upper Iowa in eighth.
The top six teams reach the NCAA Tournament. The Selection Show is scheduled for 9:30pm Sunday, March 7.
The NCAA Central Region Tournament will be played in Aberdeen, SD.
